Salvage Compost, a dynamic spin-off from its parent company, Northwest Mutual Aid Collective, was founded in 2024 to address the growing need for sustainable waste management within the nonprofit world. With Northwest Mutual Aid collectives’ operations generating substantial amounts of organic waste due to the food recovery premise, Salvage Compost was born out of a commitment to environmental stewardship and the vision to transform food waste into valuable resources for urban farmers and community growers around Philadelphia. Through its efforts, Salvage Compost aims to create a ripple effect that encourages more environment-friendly practices throughout society.
At Salvage Compost, our mission is to empower individuals and communities to embrace sustainable practices through education and charitable initiatives. We are committed to providing comprehensive educational resources, workshops, and outreach programs to promote understanding and adoption of composting methods, fostering environmental stewardship and resilience. Additionally, we strive to support local initiatives by donating compost and composting materials to urban farmers, community gardens, and schools, thereby enriching soil health, promoting food security, and advancing equitable access to sustainable resources. Through these efforts, we aim to cultivate a greener, more resilient future.
